The Weeast family lines all trace back to Thomas Weast, born around 1790, and his wife Mercy, born around 1796. From 1790 to 1840, the Federal Census recorded the name of the head of household and male and female counts in ranges of age; see the 1830 Census for Thomas Weast. Starting in 1850, the Census recorded all people residing in the household, including relatives or boarders living with the family. Here is a link to view the Thomas Weast family in the 1850 Census; notice the level of detail here.

Since 1994 I have been collecting any information I can find on Weast born in New Jersey that I can tie into our collective family and any Weeast regardless of where they lived. Included in this collection are birth, marriage and death certificates I collected on a visit to the New Jersey State Archives in the early 2000’s. There are other birth, marriage, and death records, Census indexes and pages, newspaper articles, Social Security applications, WWI and WWII Registration Cards, and more; approximately 550 files in total. The only photos included are from the Ford Weeast family, and one picture given to me of Harry Weeast. It would be nice to have other families contribute pictures they can share of their ancestors.

If You Are a Weeast, What Nationality Are You?
This is the nagging question that got me started on my genealogy quest in 1994. I have had people offer “With the three vowels in your name, you could be Dutch?” How have you answered this question?
My research indicates all of the Weeast today are descendants of someone born 228 years ago in New Jersey. And more surprising, for 160+ years all of the families identified, with one exception, lived within a 20-mile radius of each other centered in Burlington County, New Jersey.
